Do you ever look at your husband or partner and think, ‘If you just did this…’ Possibly a trim of the beard or a comb through the hair, or, please, for the love of God, just pluck that one wayward eyebrow hair? They probably think the same about us, but that’s not the point. The point here is Pierce Brosnan.
At 71 years old the former Bond is as smooth and debonair as ever. A fit physique, sharp tailored clothing, a neat beard and an unrivalled quaft of salt and pepper hair. A put-together and stylish mature man. Pierce first caught my (and half the population’s) attention at last year’s Wimbledon; effortlessly confident in a slick Ralph Lauren suit he looked the epitome of health and vigour.
I mentioned this to my husband, who agreed, but added ‘Well, he’s got a whole team to make him look like that!’. That may be the case, but there are some simple wins men can take to enhance their appearance that doesn’t take much time, money or effort. We asked the pros how it’s done (and I challenged my husband to do them).

A ‘face-lifting’ hairstyle
“What I love about this haircut and why it suits him so much is that it looks smart and polished but has a little edge to it,” says Jonathan Andrew, Fudge Professional Global Ambassador, who recently cut Pierce’s hair. “Taking the cut shorter through the back and side, while keeping the length on top means it has a youthful finish that defines his face shape.”
It also lifts everything upwards and away from the face to enhance his cheekbones. “Ask your barber for a low or mid-taper rather than a harsh fade,” recommends Mark Hayes, International Creative Director of Vidal Sassoon. “This keeps the cut structured while ensuring a seamless, dapper finish.”
A crisp, tonal hair colour
Pierce wears his natural pepper and salt grey look with nonchalant pride. “Instead of masking greys, he makes them part of his signature charm,” adds Mark. “If you’re going grey, consider following suit by letting the natural tones stand out, rather than dyeing them completely.” Regular trims every 3-4 weeks will keep the hair looking fresh and structured, even if you prefer a slightly longer style.

Jonathan tells us “He’s not colouring his hair but letting the cut enhance the colour.” You can keep your grey hair looking fresh by using a purple shampoo, such as the iconic Fudge Professional Clean Blonde Damage, £16, as this will knock out any yellow undertones that grey hair can get.
Consider makeup (yes, really)
Skincare is an important part of the grooming routine, especially when you get older. “A good moisturiser is essential, using an SPF daily, and even using a tinted moisturiser helps to even the skin tone and take any redness away, too. Jonathan often uses this trick on his celebrity male clients to get them ready for red carpet events. “My kit bag essential is the Simon Ourian MD Skin Perfecting Tint, £39. So many more men are experimenting more with makeup, for some it’s a normal part of their daily routine.”

Subtly arched eyebrows
Even eyebrows have a maintenance plan. Use a spoolie brush to groom the brows by sweeping them upward at the inner corners and then angled outward at a 45-degree angle for the rest of the brow. This will help identify hairs that need trimming, as they will protrude above the natural brow line. Trim each eyebrow hair individually. Do this at a downward angle to create a feathery look. Then grab a brow gel to set brows in place.
Beard and hair harmony
Pierce’s grizzly chin has gone through many guises; from a stubbly five o’clock shadow to full-on beardy facial hair. Today it’s neatly trimmed, “creating a balanced and refined appearance that pairs well with his well-groomed hair,” explains Mark. A decent pair of beard scissors will get rid of stragglers, trim hard-to-reach places, and shaping your beard, with precision. Another key detail is the sideburns; “Pierce’s are always clean and seamlessly blended into his hairline, enhancing the overall polished effect.”
